Woodstock, Vermont Engagement Session with Vibrant Fall Foliage
Shannon & Chris traveled north to meet with me for their Woodstock, Vermont engagement session at the height of the fall foliage. Their Woodstock engagement session took place at a mix of beautiful locations throughout the town.
The engagement session began in the morning at Billings Farm and Museum. I love the soft morning light, especially in the fall when there’s no fog, as was the case on this particular golden morning. Our first portraits at Billings Farm were in front of a fence with a weeping willow in the background. The soft light shining through the willow caught my eye as a backdrop for these first images of Chris and Shannon. In sync with a bright and natural style, trees and foliage that gently diffuse the light are key to producing soft, airy images. I’m always excited when I find a willow tree! We continued making a variety of portraits along the fence that borders the farm. I love the depth and leading lines the fence provides. It creates a pleasing composition. Shannon and Chris look so natural and at ease as they cozied-up with each other for these images.
Next we crossed the street to Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park. While this spot is most beautiful in the spring and summer when the flowers are in full bloom, it’s stunning in fall, too! The path that winds into the woods is perfect. Wide and light-filled, the woodsy images are bright and joyful, and the autumn foliage added beautiful tones of orange and gold. The staircase that leads through the garden was a great spot for us to capture them in a natural way with lots of visual interest.
We finished their session at Faulkner Park, where we could find shade as the sun became harsh. Here we shared joyful moments beside a brilliant tree bursting with autumn color. The tones of the tree at Faulkner Park were incredible. Each part of their engagement session offered something unique, and brought out more of their personalities and connection as an engaged couple.
I have photographed many Woodstock, Vermont engagement sessions, and each one is different and special!
I am grateful when I can meet my couples ahead of their big day. It’s not always possible. Travel and schedules can pose a challenge to meet for a portrait session. Though, it really helps communication and wedding portraits flow easier when we can break the ice and get to know each other before the wedding.
I look forward to seeing Shannon and Chris on their wedding day this spring!
