West Boylston, MA | Old Stone Church Engagement Session

I had the honor of photographing Jenna and Keith’s engagement session at Old Stone Church in West Boylston, Massachusetts. The weather was perfect and they are a stunning couple! We photographed on a large outcrop or rocks, found a pocket perfect window light inside the church, and shared playful moments by the water’s edge.

Creating natural images of couples during engagement sessions can be tricky, as it involves capturing the chemistry and connection between two people who you may not well intimately. However, creativity, and allowing couples to relax by keeping the session low-pressure and fun, results in stunning photos.

Jenna and Keith have a sweet and playful connection, which made working with them a joy. Each couple is unique, and it’s so important as a photographer to tailor sessions to highlight their connection. The Old Stone Church provided the perfect backdrop for these natural and emotive images.

The church’s stone walls and charm added a touch of romance to the photos, making them a beautiful representation of the couple’s love story. The warm, amber light during the golden hour, which occurs just before sunset, created a magical and intimate atmosphere, enhancing the images’ overall aesthetic.

The golden hour is a popular time for photography of all genres, as the lighting is softer and more flattering than the harsh light of midday. It creates a warm, dreamy effect, which can be used to capture stunning photos, where the light tells a story of its own. Golden hour was ideal for highlighting Jenna and Keith’s features, bringing out the colors of their outfits, and creating a soft glow around them.

Jenna and Keith’s easy style and the beautiful setting made the session a success, giving them a gorgeous collection of engagement images. The Old Stone Church was ideal for capturing images with style and soul that perfectly captured their love for each other.

While amazing moments can happen on their own, it’s the photographers role to provide subtle direction, prompting and guidance, as well as position couples in the right setting to make natural, authentic images. There’s a balance between posing and direction, but giving couples the space and freedom to insert their natural movement and personality into their sessions results in an overall more romantic, playful, and unique gallery of images.

The golden hour is indeed a magical time to capture the warm and inspired images. I loved venturing to the Old Stone Church in West Boylston. I am grateful to photograph my cousin and her fiancé, two people I adore, and cannot wait to celebrate their marriage in March 2020.
